Learn something new and fun! Everything Encaustic is a mixed media class that is great for beginners or those familiar encaustics and looking to expand their horizons. In this class students will incorporate an image with the ancient preservation technique of painting with melted wax, also known as encaustic painting.
Students will learn about encaustic history, preparation, handling, safety, and a wide variety of its applications. The specific techniques learned in this class will focus on the versatility and archival qualities of encaustic painting, how to adhere and frame images on panels of wood, how to explore the three-dimensional aspects of wax, and when to use a heat gun to shape and mold.
Students can use one or two of their own images, otherwise images will be supplied in class. In order to prepare the images for wax painting, students must email the image(s) to the instructor 48 hours before class start time.
All tools will be provided by the instructor – students should simply bring their imagination! Everyone will take home up to two beautiful, intimate and meaningful works of art, a wealth of knowledge, and a supply list with directions so as to embark on their own encaustic adventures.
Jolie Bergman is a Ballard artist who discovered her passion for encaustic while on an artist's retreat several years ago. She is bringing what was shared with her back to her community to share with others.
