Betty Laughlin | Pieced Together
Betty Laughlin is the Owner and Maker of Pieced Together Design in Seattle, Washington. Since 2001, Betty has been creating original work beginning with quilt patterns and one of a kind quilted art. As her work expanded, she made wool felted bowls and felted link chain necklaces and has also ventured into photography.
Betty has been developing an interest in recycled and reused products. For the past six years, she has made a line of bags from vintage auto upholstery fabric scraps which have been sitting on a shelf in an auto upholstery shop for 30-70 years. All this fabric comes from one shop, Paul’s Auto Upholstery in Seattle’s Roosevelt District. Fabric scraps and pieces that otherwise would have ended up in a landfill have now been made into beautiful, unique, and durable bags. The bags are lined with high end quilting cottons from her personal stash and recycled from gifted fabric stashes. Each bag comes with a small tag talking about where the fabric came from, and each zipper pull has a raindrop charm, because Seattle. Wherever know, the year and model of the car the fabric was for is included. She is working on new everything all the time.
