Janis Howes is an illustrator based in the Seattle area whose work is inspired by the beauty of the natural world. With a background in natural science illustration and graphic design, she creates detailed artwork that reflects the long tradition of scientific illustration while celebrating the artistry found in nature.
Working primarily in colored pencil, Janis also enjoys watercolor, gouache, pen and ink, and graphite. Her subjects include birds, botanicals, and wildlife, rendered with careful attention to detail, color, and character. Through her artwork, Janis hopes to inspire interest in nature conservation and a curiosity about the natural world.
Janis has exhibited her work locally, at regional art festivals and galleries and specialty shops throughout the Seattle and surrounding areas. She is a member of the Northwest chapter of The Guild of Natural Science Illustrators, ww.gnsinw.org.
