Stacey Wurster | Wurst Illustrations
Wurst Illustrations is an Art and Science Illustration effort created by Stacey
Wurster who has lived in West Seattle since 2011. After receiving a Biology
degree from Indiana’s Earlham college, she shipped out to the Pacific
Northwest and moved to Seattle for a certificate in Science Illustration from
the UW. She has drawn steadily since, exploring botanical subjects via
commissions and personal projects. She has long found that recording the
natural world by hand is a uniquely intimate way to observe, understand,
and become physically immersed with a species. There is a deep level of
investigation required to transfer a live organism to paper, and that life is
what she attempts to reveal to the viewer’s eye. Spurred by a PNW wild
forest mushroom book idea, her work has had a particular focus on the odd,
dreaded and edible world of Mycology. Through Wurst Illustrations, Stacey
offers a wide variety of high quality prints of local fungi, as well as local and
non native birds, plants and other Science Illustration subjects.
